Overview

Laylo is all about premium wines but witha difference. They sell delicious boxed wine that you’d be proud to have on your countertop, with the promise that it is "just as delicious as if it came from a bottle, without any compromises.".

After addressing the biggest problem with wine fulfillment, the packaging, Laylo were looking for the next way to reduce their impact on the planet without compromising on providing a high quality product. The next logical step was improving the sustainability of deliveries.

Approach

Once opened, glass bottles are not well designed to keep wine fresh, which means over 600 million bottles of wine are being poured away every year because they aren't consumed fast enough! Also glass bottles are heavy and can’t be tightly packed due to their fragile nature, which means a lot of wasted packaging space. As a result, transporting them produces thousands of kgs of unnecessary carbon.

Laylo's outer boxes are 100% cardboard which can be easily recycled. Inside the box, there is a bag made of a complex polymer which keeps their wines fresh for 6 weeks after opening. This is trickier to recycle but you can return your used bags for free so they can take care of the recycling for you. The boxes not only save wine from going to waste but also save space and weight, reducing the carbon footprint of delivering itto customers' homes.

Laylo were already using Bezos.ai fortheir fulfilment, so they were very excited to get involved with its new GoGreen delivery service.  By using GoGreen, Laylo were able to further reduce their impact on the planet as customers could now receive their package from a bike courier or electric van driver.

“We are delighted that Bezos.ai are leading sustainable innovation in last-mile delivery” says Laura from Laylo

Customers are given the option of same or next day green delivery at checkout and it’s directly integrated into their Shopify store’s checkout. Results

  • Laylo’s environmental impact from delivery reduced
